10 Super Girl Power Characters

Girl power has been a very well discussed subject, especially on TV, movies, and books. Here are 10 characters that show our girls that they can be whoever they want to be.

1. Annalise Keating

Annalise already showed herself as a very *very* strong woman to all watchers of "How to Get Away With a Murder" on multiple occasions. If that's not enough, she is an extremely successful lawyer and manages to protect all of her students from something terrible that they did. Annalise passed through many struggles in her life, from losing a baby to going to jail, still, she's standing and seems like she won't be giving up anytime soon.

2. Arya Stark

Everyone who watches "Game of Thrones" knows that strong women are not something missing from it and, after giving it a lot of thought, I could not find a better character than the one who was born as a noble but didn't want to follow or learn the "woman's" job roles and, instead, prefers to fight with swords, to represent the power that each girl has inside of them. Arya had to pass by uncountable struggles during the show but I think I'm pretty safe to affirm that, based on the Stark family history, she is coming out very well, after all, only by still being alive after seven seasons of this show is already a victory.

3. America Singer

The main character of "The Selection," America, fought for her love in the first chapters of the book, even though that meant to go against a whole society's tradition. After that, she went to the selection against her will just so she could provide to her family. On the kingdom she won the prince's heart by not trying to do it and showing him her great strength. She also helped on the fight against the rebels and exposed her hate for the cast system in the national channel in front of the whole crown. Oof, that is the definition of a strong spirit!

4. Lana Winters

Sarah Paulson's character in the second season of "American Horror Story" - "Asylum," - Lana Winters, fought for her love (most of all because she was a homosexual at a time that it was considered a crime). She, likewise, showed her strength when she did everything and a little more to get her story so that she could show everyone the amazing reporter she was. Too bad that this story cost her a lot, keeping her at Briarcliff. She escaped from Bloody Face's hands and faced their son, who was born from a rape, some years later.

5. Christina Yang

The Cardio God couldn't possibly be missing from this list. It's true that "Grey's Anatomy" has a lot of very powerful woman and Christina was defiantly one of them. Christina had her dreams and would do anything to follow them. She had her ideas and even though some people thought that they were wrong she'd follow them. She survived a plane crash, a hospital shot down, a husband who left her at the altar, and finally (sadly) she moved to Switzerland leaving everything behind so she could pursue her dreams fully.

6. Lorelai Gilmore

Now, which one am I talking about? Well, both but each in their own way. Wait, I'll explain. Starting with the mom, Lorelai was a teenage mom and did not bend her beliefs in order to do what everyone thought she should (e.i.: marry Christopher). She started working as a maid in a small inn and grew all the way up to being the owner of one. Lorelai is, through out the entire show, such a strong presence that the whole town shares a special love for her and her daughter. Talking about our second Lorelai, known better as Rory, she had a dream since the first time we all saw her, go to Harvard. She studied as hard as she could and would not give up for any reason. Yes, we know that later she changed her mind but that doesn't dimish the great determination that she showed to the audience. Both Lorelai and Rory show a different type of girl power and I couldn't get myself to pick only one of them, after all, they're practically a package and where one of them is, the other is not too far, otherwise, they wouldn't be our beloved "Gilmore Girls."

7. Robin Scherbatsky

Robin, a character that we were introduced to in the first episode of "How I Met Your Mother" and learned to love throughout its nine seasons, showed herself as a determined and driven personality in this show. She had dreams that she wanted to pursue - becoming a famous journalist - and she fought for them, requiring her to make many sacrifices, giving up many things, and even moving to Japan so she could be a little closer to reaching her goals. Well, I think we can all agree that this takes a lot of courage.

8. Power-puff girls

Teaching little girls that not only boys are superheroes, Bubbles, Buttercup and Blossom were born from a failure in Professor Utonium's experiment which gave them superpowers. All three fight against the evil in Townsville bringing peace to the city. They all have extremely different personalities - Bubbles is sweet, Buttercup is tough, and Blossom is responsible - but they all fight for the same goal, the greater good.

9. Belle

"Beauty and the Beast" is certainly a classic, and with its new live-action movie, it got more attention than ever. The main character, Belle, believed in inner beauty and that woman should be smart too, in a time that both sounded absurd. She was classified as strange by the people in her village when she was actually just away ahead of her time. Belle risked her life to save her father from the fierce beast, who ended up falling in love with her for her eccentric personality.

10. Hermione Granger

Hermione Granger, the young witch who was not born from magical parents, passed uncountable struggles by Harry's and Ron's side. She was extremely smart and always knew the right spell to take the boys out of danger. If it wasn't for her, the Sorcerer's Stone would be Harry Potter's first and only adventure.
